Description
A project of the American Youth Horse Council, and a companion book of fun activities and lesson plans to the Horse Industry Handbook, this book is indispensable to the leader. Filled with 60 lesson plans on three skill levels to teach responsible horse care and valuable life skills to all breeds and disciplines.
This manual is designed to help horse leaders provide an enjoyable, fun and interesting experience for youth to learn about horses. Each worksheet corresponds to one or more fact sheet(s) in the Horse Industry Handbook. Therefore, leaders are encouraged to use the Horse Industry Handbook as a companion resource. This manual also provides the vehicle to teach young people valuable life skills.
OBJECTIVES:
LIFE SKILLS
The “Sharing your knowledge” section will lead the group through the experimental learning process. AGES AND LEVELS Leaders can best achieve the desired outcomes when they are well prepared and understand how to create a stimulating learning environment for all age levels. These worksheets and lesson plans were developed to target three general age groups:
It should be understood that levels are designed to correspond with the skill level of each youth. Thus, a 14-year-old youth starting for the first time should probably begin with lessons in the Beginning level, and not start with the intermediate until the young person has mastered some basic knowledge and skills.
